FGHS AmeriCorp

  Shelby, FGHS AmeriCorp Member

Shelby Dallas is serving as an AmeriCorps Member with the English department for a second year! She's super excited to be back and working with this year's 9th grade students. While not out wandering town as often, she's always willing to talk if you see her in the grocery store. When not working with students she can be found watching movies, cooking new food, and studying to be a future teacher.

                             Taylor - AmeriCorp

Taylor Stuart is an AmeriCorps Member serving with the Math department this year. He's looking forward to getting to know the freshmen class, and he's very excited to do some math! Taylor is a recent graduate who majored in Neuroscience and Italian and plans on going to law school next fall. In his free time, he runs long-distance, and he loves to bake. He's also kind of a nerd, so if you ever want to talk to him about math (or the brain), count him in!

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is the National Service initiative signed into law by President Clinton in 1993. Through AmeriCorps, thousands of Americans of all backgrounds have met community needs and earned education rewards in return. AmeriCorps joins a long tradition of efforts encouraging and rewarding service dating back to America’s beginning and including Civilian Conservation Corps, the GI Bill, and the Peace Corps.

The AmeriCorps Mission

Getting Things Done-
Above all, AmeriCorps helps communities meet their education, public safety, human or environmental needs, both through their own direct service and by mobilizing the volunteer service of other Americans.

Strengthening Communities-
AmeriCorps unites individuals from all different backgrounds - and organizations of different kinds - in a common effort to improve our communities.

Encouraging Responsibility-
AmeriCorps encourages members to explore and exercise their responsibilities to their communities, their families, and themselves during their service experience and throughout their lives.

Expanding Opportunity-
AmeriCorps helps those who help America. AmeriCorps members receive rewards to further their education or to pay back student loans, as well as invaluable job experience, specialized training, and life skills.

Partnerships for Student Achievement Mission Statement

The AmeriCorps Team will improve academic achievement through tutoring, mentoring, extended school day activities, specialized projects & initiatives, and volunteer generation. The value of service will be demonstrated to the community at large and a stronger network of involved citizens will be generated.
