Dear FGSD Parents,
Thank you for continuing to work with your students and providing them with support as they continue learning in this unusual and challenging environment. The number of positive COVID-19 cases is continuing to decline which is welcome news. As we have communicated previously, district staff have been planning for students to return to school in some type of capacity. Many of you have reached out to me and school board members to let us know your thoughts about what is best for your child and family. What we have learned is there are families who want their students to return to school and others who wish students to remain in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL).
For the district to do the best for each option we first need to know how many students want to come back and how many will remain in CDL. Please take a few minutes to provide us with this important information by filling out this survey for your student(s). At this point, we are not asking you to make a final decision on whether or not you will be sending your students back to school. We are trying to understand what the ratios look like and what the demographics of those families are that are making a particular decision. I will report out the initial results at the board meeting on Monday night. In the coming weeks, we will provide a detailed description on what the instructional model will look like, including schedules and classroom environment. We will conduct engagement sessions through your students’ school. We will then send follow-up communication where families will be asked to officially choose if they want their student(s) to stay in CDL or attend our hybrid model.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Future Expanded Meal Services
Forest Grove School District is starting a 7-Day Meal Kit program for families that are unable to attend the daily meal pickup. This will start on February 15, 2021, and will look similar to the meal boxes that were provided to families over Winter Break. Families will need to fill out an online survey in advance each week and will be able to pick up their meal box at any of the four walk-up sites (Forest Grove High School, Joseph Gale Elementary School, Harvey Clarke Elementary School and Echo Shaw Elementary School).
Current Meal Distribution
The district is continuing to offer meals to all children 1-18 years old -- free of charge. You can find a schedule of curbside grab and go meals and bus delivery schedules with locations throughout the district by visiting the district website. Inclement Weather
Each year we tend to see some inclement weather that typically forces school to be closed or delay start times. However, as we are currently in CDL we will not be closing school. Students will follow their regular schedule. Weather could present us with some problems with the delivering of school meals. If this does happen, we will communicate with you on alternative plans through our typical communication channels: district and school websites, email, Remind, Flash Alert and district social media.

En este punto, no le pedimos que tome una decisión final sobre si enviará o no a sus estudiantes a la escuela. Estamos tratando de entender cómo se ven las proporciones y cuál es la demografía de esas familias que están tomando una decisión en particular. Informaré los resultados iniciales en la reunión de la junta el lunes por la noche. En las próximas semanas, proporcionaremos una descripción detallada de cómo se verá el modelo de instrucción, incluidos los horarios y el entorno del aula. Servicios de comidas ampliados en el futuro
El distrito escolar de Forest Grove está comenzando un programa de botiquín de comidas de 7 días para las familias que no pueden asistir a la recogida diaria de comidas. Esto comenzará el 15 de febrero de 2021 y se verá similar a las cajas de comida que se proporcionaron a las familias durante las vacaciones de invierno.
